ICRI is pleased to offer an online IAP Virtual seminar on the subject of Understanding solvents & cleaning approaches by David Peggie, Senior Scientist at the National Gallery London* on Thursday 23 July at 2.30pm.

The online seminar is free to ICRI members but you must register in order to join. 25 participants maximum.

Topics and structure: ‘Understanding solvents & cleaning approaches’

14.30 - 16.40 Seminar

2 x 40 minute sessions (+ 20 minutes for questions in each session) on the following topics;

Session 1: Interactions of molecules: primary and secondary bonding & relating chemical behaviour to functional groups

Session 2: Aqueous cleaning; acids, bases and pH & a (very small) introduction to gel & surfactant-based systems

*David Peggie, Senior Scientist in the Scientific Department at the National Gallery, London is also a chemistry tutor on the conservation course at City and Guilds of London Art School. His current research uses a variety of chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques for the characterisation of materials in support of conservation treatments and for the understanding of painting technique.
