About Us

Our mission is to promote the conservation and restoration of Ireland’s cultural heritage.

We are the accrediting body for the conservation profession in Ireland.

Our members can provide professional advice and support to the general public, museum professionals and local heritage groups on how to best look after their collections or artefacts.

We promote the practice of conservation of historic and artistic material to internationally accepted standards. Our Code of Conduct is central to the running of the Institute. The code guides the conservator-restorer in the ethical practice of the profession. Our members are required to comply with its principles and practices.

We are an active and informed voice in the development of cultural policy in Ireland. Through the preservation of Ireland’s cultural and artistic heritage, our members contribute significantly to the quality of life for the people of Ireland.

We aim to improve public awareness and understanding of the need for conservation and provide a forum for those professionally engaged in the preservation of Ireland's cultural heritage.
